PBS Training Courses

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).

A 3-day Positive Behaviour Support training course from APT, one of Canada's leading providers of training in mental health and related areas. We bring this APT-Accredited course to your own organization, for maximum cost-effectiveness, and up to 15 people can attend. (2-day version and Live Webinar also available).

Executive Summary:

The course covers the background and rationale for PBS and then looks at understanding an individual’s needs, analysing their behaviour and understanding the role it fulfils. Positive and proactive, the training will empower delegates to develop individual PBS plans aimed at improving their clients’ environment and wellbeing, thus decreasing the likelihood of disturbed behaviour. Using skills and understanding from the course delegates will be able to develop specific client-centred plans, also considering their situation and family / carers.

Given that some incidents will inevitably still occur the course also covers steps to manage a crisis and to continually review and improve the plan.

This is a powerful approach that improves the environment and wellbeing of both clients and staff. This is the only PBS course that is APT accredited and gives access to relevant web-based APT resources after the course.

The course covers:

What is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)?

Creating a high-quality environment

Considerations for the Individuals

Functions of behaviour/functional analysis.

Active Support

Understanding and Creating the PBS Plan.

Implementing the Plan

Crisis Management

Post Incident Learning

Option 1: Live webinar:

This course can be provided as a live webinar for groups and individuals. A webinar typically takes slightly less time than the live course on which it is based (because of less group discussion and group exercises) but they have equivalence in accreditation and are live and pleasingly interactive.

Delegates can be anywhere that is conducive to concentrating, all together or separate, so long as they have access to a computer with a good internet connection.

Exclusive Live Webinars (for groups)

$6,600 for a group of up to 15 people.

Option 3: 'Train the Trainer':

If you or a colleague are a senior professional (e.g. consultant psychologist) and have a talent for communication and teaching, then you are welcome to apply to become an APT-accredited tutor. You could then tutor the course - or your chosen modules from it - in your own organization, under license.

This is not only a highly appropriate use of senior professionals, but it also saves your organization the tutor-component of the fee (around 50%) each time you run it or your chosen modules.

APT Accreditation

As a bona fide APT event, this course automatically has accreditation from The Association for Psychological Therapies. This means (i) that it contains the right amount of relevant information for its duration, and (ii) the information is presented in an engaging way, and in a way that will make it likely to be used after the course. APT verifies the accreditation by publishing the delegates' average ratings of relevance and presentation-quality for all its accredited courses. The accreditation is given value by over 100,000 professionals having attended APT courses.
