A 2-day course familiarising you with an exciting Risk Assessment and Management System designed for use by whole services and organisations, but also suitable for individuals who need to assess risk reliably.
This empowering 2-day course will give you best-practice tools to recognise, assess and manage risks including suicide, self-neglect, violence and sexual assault. This training gives you APT accreditation in the DICES System for 3 years, access to online resources similarly, and is easily renewable.
We bring the training to your own organisation and train a group of 6-15 people. Optionally, suitably qualified professionals in you organisation can also be trained to roll out the course in the organisation, under license.
Many professionals see risk assessment as boring at best, anxiety-provoking at worst, so we wanted to construct a reliable system that is reassuring and empowering, exciting even! So we created the DICES® System and now over 6,000 professionals use it. What they love about it is that it teaches the essential risk triad in an enjoyable way, and in a way that actually helps them to produce great clinical work. The risk triad is:
Everyone who works with people in settings including: Adult Mental Health, Children and Adolescents, Older People, Substance Misuse, Forensic, Learning Disability, and Brain Injury.
The professional affiliations of people attending this course include: mental-health nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, educational psychologists, psychiatrists, probation officers and others.
Module One: Core knowledge about risk assessment and management.
Module Two: Risk assessment and the DICES checklists.
Module 3: Risk Management.
Module 4: Demonstrating the risk has been assessed and managed competently.
You will be registered as having attended the course, thereby gaining APT's Level 1 accreditation, and receive a certificate to this effect. The accreditation gives you access to online resources associated with the course.
Your registration lasts indefinitely, and your accreditation lasts for 3 years and is renewable by sitting an online refresher which also upgrades your accreditation to APT Level 2 if you are successful in the associated online exam.
Your accreditation is given value by the fact of over 100,000 people having attended APT training. See APT accreditation for full details.
Option 1: Bring the course to your organisation:
Up to 15 people can attend this course and we bring it to you for an all-inclusive fee of $4,500 plus GST/HST, tutor travel and accommodation expenses. (A 3-day version, suitable for senior supervising professionals, is also available at a cost of $6,300 plus GST/HST, tutor travel and accommodation expenses, and a 1-day version, geared towards alerting junior professionals to the risks that exist, at a cost of $2,500 (plus GST/HST, tutor travel and accommodation expenses.)
To book, email email@example.com, or click the button:
Option 2: 'Train the Trainer':
If you or a colleague are a senior professional (e.g. consultant psychologist) and have a talent for communication and teaching, then you are welcome to apply to become an APT-accredited tutor. You could then tutor the course - or your chosen modules from it - in your own organisation, under license.
This is not only a highly appropriate use of senior professionals, but it also saves your organisation the tutor-component of the fee (around 50%) each time you run it or your chosen modules.

APT prides itself on the feedback we receive about our courses. Below are just some of the great comments the The DICES® Risk Assessment and Management System has received.
“The best risk assessment course I have ever attended. The tools were precise and relevant to my practice. The management aspect was well explained and the practical examples were very good and informative."
“I have undergone many risk management trainings and this was by far the most informative, interesting and well presented. I will definitely recommend to other organisations I work for."
