APT's unified approach to working with Psychosis
A 3-day course for 6-15 people (2-day version also available). Please note: you can attend one, some, or all of 'APT's unified approach to working with Psychosis' courses, in whichever order is best for you.
Even for experienced professionals, everyday interactions with people who are experiencing a psychotic episode can be demanding. And yet for the client these everyday experiences are crucially important to their wellbeing and progress. This is why we have developed this course: to help professionals feel more confident and effective, and to help clients' sense of wellbeing and progress.
The course is for everyone who works with people with psychosis. Its purpose is to teach the best ways of handling routine, fundamental interactions with patients e.g. how to respond to patients expressing their delusions, discussing medication, responding to acute distress, etc. Above all, it works to help you feel relaxed and confident about working with psychosis so you can do the best for the person concerned.
The course aims to give participants a better understanding of the nature of delusions and hallucinations, why these symptoms occur as they do and the psychological factors that maintain them. Of central importance is the empathic understanding of what it might be like for people who experience these symptoms.
Specifically, you will be introduced to key concepts and skills for working with people who have experiences of psychosis.
All professionals who routinely see people with psychotic experiences.
You will be registered as having attended the course, thereby gaining APT's Level 1 accreditation, and receive a certificate to this effect. The accreditation gives you access to online resources associated with the course.
Your registration lasts indefinitely, and your accreditation lasts for 3 years and is renewable by sitting an online refresher which also upgrades your accreditation to APT Level 2 if you are successful in the associated online exam.
Your accreditation is given value by the fact of over 100,000 people having attended APT training. See APT accreditation for full details.
Option 1: We come and run the course in your organisation:
We bring this 3-day course to your own organisation for a fixed fee of $6,300 (plus GST/HST, tutor travel and accommodation expenses) and up to 15 people can attend. You can organize as many courses as you need, to cover the numbers you want to.
To book, email email@example.com, or click the button:
Option 2: 'Train the Trainer':
If you or a colleague are a senior professional (e.g. consultant psychologist) and have a talent for communication and teaching, then you are welcome to apply to become an APT-accredited tutor. You could then tutor the course - or your chosen modules from it - in your own organisation, under license.
This is not only a highly appropriate use of senior professionals, but it also saves your organisation the tutor-component of the fee (around 50%) each time you run it or your chosen modules.

APT prides itself on the feedback we receive about our courses. Below are just some of the great comments the 'Course 1: Key Knowledge and Skills for Everyday Interactions' course has received.
"Without doubt the most relevant and useful course that I have taken in my career so far. My only regret is that I wish I'd done it years ago! Looking forward to taking module 2. This course should probably be mandatory for anyone working in adult mental health."
"I must say that this is the best skills based course I have had the pleasure of attending since qualifying in 1989."
